The charitable organization SERVO was created under the patronage of the Dominican Order for the purpose of helping "latch-key" children and those who require assistance because of old age, poverty, sickness or disability. Assistence is given without regard to nationality, origin, race or religion by those who are comitted to a philosophy of caring as expressed by both the Dominicans and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
SERVO's current project "Children of the Streets" offers assistance to children whose parents are still at work when they return from school. Under the direction of the Zlichov Parish in Prague 5 a Mission Center has been provided for children of sidliste Barrandov (an apartment complex) housing some 30.000 people. In the Mission Center they get a warm secure environment to spend after school hours under supervision. For those who do not qualify for statal assistance, a day care program is also available. The center represents a positive alternative for many vulnerable children who would otherwise be left without educational assistance offering activities such as sports, games, Scouts and Environmental programs.
SERVO provides the Children's Mission Center with financial assistance helping to cover electric bills and other household expenses, toys, trips and summer camps for children from financially weak families.
SERVO tries to provide old and handicaped persons with nursary material and important financial help.
